Finance Categories
This page is a quick lookup reference for the main finance categories used in the live system.
The most important thing to remember is that categories do not just describe money. They also tell you which system created the posting.
If you know the category, you can usually work backwards to the source.
How to Use This Page
When you see a ledger row you do not recognize, ask three questions:
- Is it income or expense?

How to Read a Category Correctly
If a category surprises you, do not only ask what is this?
Also ask:
- does this belong to the organization account or the car account?
- is this a weekly event-close row or a season-close row?
- is this driven by contracts, sponsorships, or general operations?
That is usually enough to identify whether the posting is actually wrong or simply belongs somewhere else than you expected.
Final Reminder
A ledger category is not just a label.
It is a clue about:
- what system created the row
- why it posted
- where you should look next if it seems wrong
